life has changed
I’ve been estranged
from trivial pursuit
it’s goodbye now
to sacred cows
that saw me through my youth

I say hello
to different bows
not sure yet where I’m aiming
but in exchange
for changing range
no tear is shed for gaming

a day will come
when I won’t run
a race where there’s a loser
I’ve sucked it dry
there’s only flies
around each open oozer

the only race
the pearly gates
the only race that matters
Jesus pass
on first and last
a shepherd does not scatter

I stand halfway
from birth and clay
there’s things I’d rearrange
but in the palm
of heaven’s hand
I do not feel estranged

easing gnaws
of grievous flaws
the light of many candles
this life I live
I ask you give
touch wood I’ve got a handle
