on one of those no days
the end of a book phase
of being in a room on my own
that breeze beyond reason
was mine now for seizing
a lifetime to conquer or blow

I strolled up the down-town
no back turn, no glance down
with no look beyond the next turn
saw brothers in strangers
and knew then the danger
of having just one man’s concern

we met by the river
just silence to give her
just asked her that she stand by me
with clear eyes she curled up
then said tear this world up
this river is destined for sea
